National Museum of Scotland

Just a few shots from our trip to the National Museum of Scotland this morning. I took a lot more but I like the way the colours in these particular photos go together. Going to the museum is a good excuse for zoology students to get out of doing work for a while, especially now that the huge natural history section has been re-opened. It’s practically revision.

Everything I’m wearing is thrifted. The skirt was longer but I hemmed it because it originally sat at a really awkward length. And would you believe that the jumper is Celine? I think I paid about £5.00 for it, not bad! It does, unfortunately, have two rather large holes in the back but they’re quite far down so I can usually hide them.

Inspirational Bloggers

There is so much talent and creativity floating around the blogosphere at the moment. Three people in particular, Sarah, Anja and Tara-Lynn, are constantly knocking my socks off with their brilliant ideas and ambitious projects.

In my opinion, these ladies are living the dream: working for themselves and doing exactly what they want to do. In the hope that you’ll be just as inspired as I am, I thought I’d share some of their latest endeavors here.

Sarah is a genius. That’s the only possible explanation. How else could she come up with such wonderful designs? Not only is her jewellery unique, you can also tell that a lot of care and attention to detail has gone into every element, from the hand water-coloured paper right down to the findings that hold it all together.

I bought one of her necklaces from the last collection and I can honestly say that it’s one of my favourite pieces of jewellery. It’s incredibly well made and the design is so versatile that you can wear it with anything (in fact I’m wearing it right now).

The extra great thing about these is that the styling was done by another talented lady whose blog I regularly devour, Siri. Have you seen her Polyvore sets? Siri has the best eye for basics and knows how to style them in a way that will have you clicking through on every piece in the desperate hope that you’ll be able to afford it.

I am so excited that Anja has brought out her own line. Her first mini collection is full of wearable basics made out of fabrics such as silk charmeuse and rayon and she’s also sourced some fantastic prints. I am loving the space witch vibes that I’m getting from these pieces.

It really doesn’t seem that long ago when Anja was posting about her sewing lessons and I’m amazed by how far she’s come already. She must be one super-talented lady, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Ann-ya in the future. Inspiration central.

Tara-Lynn’s knits just keep getting better and better. I think part of the reason why I love them so much is because I’m so inspired by Tara-Lynn’s aesthetic in general. I love the simple, slightly androgynous feel to her styling. And then there’s the fact that those knits just look so incredibly chunky and cosy.

If you follow me on Twitter you’ll know that I’ve just started knitting myself, but it’s taking me so long! I now have a much greater appreciation for Tara-Lynn’s talent, she must be some kind of knitting machine.

Angela

Sorry for the lack of diversity in my posts just lately. I’m so busy at the moment and unfortunately these photos are all I have right now. Another post about pretty old things is better than no post at all, right?

Anyway, I actually have an ulterior motive for posting these. Remember Angela and the website I was helping her to build? Well, it’s more or less finished and live but not updated as of yet. We also set up an Etsy shop (that still needs work) so you might see some pieces cropping up on there from time to time. Angela is always super busy organising and selling at vintage shows so I can’t tell you what to expect and when, but I’m sure she’ll get on it eventually.

These are some of the beautiful things Angela gave me in return for setting her up online. I’m particularly in love with the 1930s velvet clutch, which actually doubles as a hand muff! Perfection.

I Wish I Was the Moon – Neko Case

Here we are, a jumble of pictures for you to feast your eyes on, hand-picked picked for their autumn-y vibes and colours. Most certainly not just something to distract you from the fact that I don’t have anything else to post. Fourth year is keeping me busy, I’m afraid. I have so much work and reading to do and I have to admit, it’s harder than I expected it would be. And do you know what makes it harder yet? Being almost certain that I don’t actually want to work in my chosen field when I graduate. Doh!

The weather’s been weirdly warm here for most of the week, but yesterday I walked home in the mist and rain. I didn’t mind because foggy days suit Edinburgh well, thanks to its many moss-encrusted stone walls and buildings with turrets. There’s already a carpet of crispy orange leaves on the pavements outside my window and knowing Scotland, it won’t be long until that carpet turns to snow.

[P.S. A handful of these came from my Tumblr, so if you're looking for more inspiration... Just sayin'. ]
