Today my boyfriend and I went to a vintage and handmade fair that was held in Hatton Park and then decided to head out into the countryside after for a walk and to snap a few photos. I’ve got some pictures of the vintage fair coming up (along with photos of a couple of sneaky purchases), but I need to go through and edit them first.
Lately I seem to like wearing warm, spicy colours so I was really pleased to unearth this skirt in a charity shop. It was originally an awkward maxi length (just above the ankles and straight cut) but I shortened it and now it’s become one of my summer staples.
But let’s move on to the hat… who’s got an opinion on fedora hats? I was never very keen on them before but just lately I seem to have warmed to them a bit. I probably wouldn’t buy one new but as this one was £2 at a car boot (and a delicious peachy/camel shade, just sayin’) I figured it wouldn’t hurt to give one a try. The only thing is I have no idea how these things are supposed to fit on your head. This one is quite possibly too big for me, but then I guess beggars can’t be choosers. What do you think?

I really love the hat! What a bargain.
LH July 3, 2011 at 8:12 pm
heelll, that was really cheap! the shape of the hat is a shape that you can use for every occasion and damn, I wish I could find one like that!

You look like someone out of a 1960s magazine in that first shot. Beautiful

Fedoras are fantastic. I wear one practically every day on my blog, they provide shade and really pull together a lot of outfits!

I love your photos so much! And your outfit is adorable ;)

You look beautiful!
and now onto your question. I love fedora’s, but too many tabloid pictures of Britney Spears has sort of ruined them for me. But if you find one that is different (and yours has a beautiful big brim on it) then I love them. So basically, they can’t just be an average fedora, but some are really special : )
Hannah July 3, 2011 at 10:07 pm
That’s exactly what held me back – all the paparazzi shots of Britney! But usually hers were denim or pin-striped so I think I’m okay ha ;)
Thank you by the way!

Oooh, I live not far from you. What was the vintage and handmade fair you went to?
Nice looking park too!

Hi Elizabeth, fortunately I was handed a flyer so I can give you the web address!

I don’t know how often they’re on and this is the first one I’ve been to. I only knew about it because it was signposted in Kenilworth!

Gorgeous natural backdrops for your photos as per usual– I especially love the movement of the first one and how bouncy your hair looks! Your fedora looks wonderful, they remind me of old 1930s gangster movies more than anything (especially living here in Chicago, former home of Al Capone!).
Kuleigh July 4, 2011 at 12:46 am
I love the colors in this. The fedora works because it’s tan and really summery!
arnique July 4, 2011 at 12:58 am
Your hair is glorious. I like the colour of your skirt (mauve?), it’s a shade that I don’t often see though I wish I did.
Joy July 4, 2011 at 1:16 am
You are the best thrifter in the world! Why can’t I ever find anything as good ? Share your secrets in a post in the future if you have the time pretty please? :D You look amazing here, so chic.
Christy July 4, 2011 at 1:38 am
I’ve never really had an opinion on fedora hats one way or another, but as I was looking through these photos (even before I read your post), I was thinking that I quite liked your hat! So I guess it’s all in the styling. The warm brown skirt and classic striped top just complement the fedora, I suppose. Effortless and summery and beautiful. :)
Emma July 4, 2011 at 3:19 am
wow this outfit is gorgeous, totally something id wear! loving the skirt

I love the first photo ~ it looks so great and care free! Personally I always wear my fedora tilted forwards and slanted over one eye. I do not know if that’s how you are supposed to wear them, but it’s the only way that looks good on me, so that’s how I do it! : )

I’ve been on the hunt for the PERFECT Fedora for over 2 years now. So jealous of yours, its wonderful. I’m always tempted when there is on on the high street but am convinced one day the perfect vintage treat will fall in my lap. Sigh. It probably won’t *cries* xx
Rachel July 4, 2011 at 8:41 am
Love the skirt, it looks great on you! I think fedora’s can work, depending on how they’re styled and it works here :) x
Lizzy July 4, 2011 at 8:41 am
Two words… Indiana. Jones. Sums up most of my reasons for being a paid up member of the fedora appreciation society! My current favourite is bright red, which is also a plus. The fit can be a pain – if it’s too large you have to jam it onto your head and it pushes out of shape, which isn’t so great. I have the same trouble with boaters, I can never seem to find one that will stay one! x
Erogene July 4, 2011 at 1:48 pm
Perfect! Love that necklace…I had to befriend We Never Sleep!

You have the prettiest pictures of any blog I follow! They’re always in such nice lighting and in lovely locations. What kind of camera do you use?
Leanne July 4, 2011 at 4:04 pm
Hey you,
Loving the photos! and how could you not love that hat! Tell Ian that the photos are great, but he can’t have my job! lol. Also your hair is just at the right length at the moment, it looks great!
Hope you are having a good summer so far and aren’t working to hard. I am sooooo bored as I am at home alone for a week or so as the parents have gone camping. The weather looks good with you too, I am so burnt from being in the fields so I look like a lobster and have some amazing tan lines!
Keep up with the posts ;) x
Hannah July 4, 2011 at 4:54 pm
Ha ha ha, I will actually tell him that! Thanks for the compliments! I’m not working too much, just enough to slowly claw my way out of debt (although paying that last bit of rent knocked me for six!). I’m pretty bored today too, I must be because I cleaned my bathroom! I’m really starting to miss Edinburgh and you guys, I think I’ll be pretty excited when it’s finally time to go back. Here’s hoping your burns turn into a tan! xx

I love the skirt, I am always looking for thrifted skirts just like that one that can be shortened. I think the hat looks great, it looks good with the outfit. I love hats but I’m never confident enough to wear them!
Vanessa July 5, 2011 at 3:31 pm
ahhh i love the satisfied feeling of having created something cool out of something odd! lovely :)

i love your blog so much! these photos are beautiful!! great oufit, i especially like your skirt! I haven’t got much to say about fedora hats, haven’t really ever worn one. I emailed you a while back (can’t remember why ?!?!? you probably don’t remember, but it was something to do with your blog), since then I got my own and I would die of happiness if you checked it out! Anyways, thanks for the brill post !

I don’t think you should be wearing hats at all because your hair looks AMAZING in these pictures. Seriously. How do you do it?

Happy days finding your blog lady. You seem like the queen of the charity shops. I’ve really enjoyed scrolling though your posts….and that suede skirt you found at the fair…what a score! It’s perfect, the shape, color, buttons, everything.

Oh my goodness, these photos are BREATHTAKING. Your outfit is absolutely adorable too! The striped tee is perfection. And what a darling hat! Fedoras are really cute, but I have one and it looks a little big on me too. Maybe we just have tiny heads!

i really like your skirt! i wish i had the eye or the confidence to shorten long skirts i find at the thrift store. i suppose that’s a talent i need to acquire!
AM July 17, 2011 at 8:40 pm
I think hats are so cool, but one does need the confidence to pull them off. People will always look at you if you are wearing a hat, simply because there is something on your head! And they are not that commonplace in the UK really. Your hat is lovely though. In my experience of buying hats, the fit should be that it sits just touching the top of your ears and snugly, but not tight.
