A Question

January 30, 2011

Okay, I’m just going to come straight out and say it: I’m thinking about opening up spaces for sponsors on my blog. A couple of people have inquired and it’s an idea I’ve been toying around with for a while now. Before I go any further, I want to say that I’m only planning on accepting five for the time being and even more importantly, I’m not about to try and flog you gold watches.

I didn’t want to just sling the offer out there without consulting my readers first, so what do you think? I’m not saying that if I have one or two negative comments about the idea then I definitely won’t do it, but I value your opinions and I’d like to know what the general consensus is.

To potential sponsors: I know that I’m not the most consistent blogger (at the end of the day I have to put my degree first) and I can’t make any promises that posting will become more regular. I therefore understand that some people will be put off. Still, this little old blog gets its fair share of traffic and I would try to compensate for lack of posting by keeping the cost of advertising low. If I decide to go ahead with everything then I will set up a page with all the relevant info.

So that’s it, please share your thoughts!

I think that if you won't be spamming us by hair products reviews every day, it could be allright! Go for it :)

If you want to then go for it, readers don't mind the odd sponsored post but when it starts to become every post it gets a bit much.

My best advice for ads is to MAKE YOUR OWN RULES. There's no official way to have sponsors, you get to make all the calls. That includes the cost, ad image size(s), whether or not you want to offer them a post to go along with their banner, giveaways, all that stuff. Don't push past what you're comfortable with, and trust that your readers will support you because you're not betraying your own preferences. Go for it!

I'd be interested in becoming a sponsor! I'm a UK (Manchester) based vintage Etsy seller (TheSweetestVintage) and also run a blog (http://pretty-odds-and-ends.blogspot.com/). I'm currently not endorsed/represented by any bloggers and so would be really keen to sponser a British blog to promote the UK vintage market on Etsy. I could also send you some freebie pieces ;) Dulcie x

It's your blog, so I would absolutely say make your own decision on it.

I hate seeing advertising with a passion; but it wouldn't stop me reading your lovely blog; I generally accept it as a necessary evil, bloggers need a little extra revenue!

as stated above, its your blog and you should go with your own instinct :) as a (n avid) reader, id be more interested in seeing sponsors that fit your personality and your style than gold watches, thats for sure ;)

do it- you've got lovely taste, and I think the kinds of sponsors that you'll attract/accept will reflect that. I totally click on the sponsors of other style bloggers I admire. I think a lot of people do!

If its advertising in your side bar, then I would just do it, but if its actual sponsored posts, I found that my readers wanted to know at the start of the post that it was a sponsored one so they could choose whether to read it or not :)

Do it – I don't know why anybody would critisise you for putting a few ads up, it's not like you're running some whacky communist/free people/anti-society/whatever blog.
You deserve a bit of money for the effort, even if it only ends up going to buying a few rolls of film or some shoes.

I dont see a problem! I dont forsee you becoming one of those "everything-is-c/o" kind of blogs. There is something very relatable and real about your blog and I would love to see it stay that way! I definitely think there is going too far with sponsors and suddenly the blog could be one big advertisement. Again, I dont see this happening with you and I'd love to see some brands/shops/online stores that tickle your fancy! You have such great taste!

I think you spend so much time on this blog making it look so nice, you should be compensated for your time.

Do it!! Your blog is great and you deserve some literal reward :) and anyway, if you choose good sponsors, then your readers will get some new cool places to shop! So it's win win!! xx S

sponsorship is a fun and nice thing. You could always test it out to see how it goes. I had three sponsors this month and charge very low for it compared to a lot of bloggers and I have been told that business has boomed for those people or they get loads of hits. It is helpful in two ways. . for you and them! in three ways too considering the reader who might purchase things from a sponsor!

I would say that you have a consistent following, so despite not being 100% on top of consistent posting, sponsors should still get quite a bit of attention.

So I'd say if you can get the technical details worked out, then go for it!
